Volkswagen Group Australia has issued a recall due to defective high-voltage battery cell modules that could pose a fire risk.

According to the original report, just 3 examples, produced in 2023, have been affected. A full list of affected VINs can be found here.

“Due to a manufacturing issue, the cell modules installed in the high voltage battery may be defective and could overheat. If this occurs, it could lead to a vehicle fire. The range of the vehicle may also be affected,” says the recall.

“A warning light may illuminate in the instrument cluster.”

Before the repair is completed, CUPRA asks consumers to avoid charging above 80%, refrain from using external charging sources, and keep a safe distance from the property and other vehicles while charging.

Owners of affected vehicles can contact their preferred CUPRA dealership to schedule an appointment as soon as possible to have the software update carried out, free of charge.

For further information, consumers can call the CUPRA Recall Campaign Hotline on 1800 879 112, or email recalls@mycupra.com.au
