Ford Australia has issued a recall for its Puma SUV over fears an incorrectly configured Restraint Control Module (RCM) may cause certain safety systems will not function correctly.

“During the manufacturing process, the Restraint Control Module (RCM) was loaded with an incorrect configuration. As a result, if an incorrect replacement part is installed in the system, warnings will not be displayed and the seatbelt pretensioners and airbags may not perform as intended in the event of an accident”, the recall says.

“In the event of an accident, an airbag not deploying or seatbelt pretensioner not activating correctly could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants.”

Key details:

  • A total of 28 vehicles are affected.
  • Affected models were built in 2023.
  • A full list of affected VINs can be found here.

Owners of affected vehicles are asked to schedule an appointment at an authorised Ford dealership to have the RCM updated, free of charge.

For further information, read the original recall notice here, or contact the Ford Customer Relationship Centre on 133 673.
