Ford Australia has issued a recall for 2022 model Everest and Rangers due to fears a software issue may cause the vehicle may stop suddenly without the rear brake lights illuminating as intended.

Key details:

  • A total of 244 vehicles are affected.
  • The recall affects Ranger and Everest models built in 2022.
  • A list of affected vehicles can be found here.

“Due to a software issue, under certain circumstances if the battery level drops below a critical threshold, the transmission may shift into Park when the vehicle is travelling at speeds below 6 km/h. This may cause a sudden stop without the rear brake lamps illuminating as intended”, the recall says.

“A sudden stop whilst driving at low speed and the rear brake lamps not illuminating as intended, could increase the potential risk of an accident, causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users”.

Ford also states that owners must still have the fault rectified even if work was carried out as part of a separate 2023 recall for 4841 Rangers and Everests built from 2021 to 2023.

Ford says affected owners will be contacted and asked to make an appointment at their preferred Ford Authorised Dealership to have the repair carried out free of charge.

Further information can be found by contacting Ford Customer Relationship Centre on 133 673.
