Volkswagen Group Australia has issued a recall for the 2020-2024 Touareg due to defective cell modules in the high-voltage battery that may lead to a vehicle fire.

Until the software is installed, consumers are asked to refrain from charging the high-voltage battery using an external charging source and avoid from driving in electric-only mode.

Key details:

  • 214 vehicles affected.
  • Affected models were produced from 2020-2024.
  • A full list of VINs is attached here.

“We further request that the setting “battery hold” in hybrid mode be selected at a charge level of a maximum of 50%. These measures are required for the safety of your vehicle. You can of course continue to safely drive your vehicle in petrol mode,” the recall notice states.

“A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders, and/or damage to property.”

Owners of affected vehicles can contact their preferred Volkswagen dealership to schedule an appointment as soon as possible to have the software update carried out, free of charge.

For more information, owners can contact the Volkswagen Recall Campaign Hotline on 1800 504 076 or by email recalls@myvw.com.au.
