More than 3000 examples of the Volvo EX30 electric SUV have been recalled over fears a defect may cause the high voltage battery to overheat at high charge levels, potentially leading to a fire.

The recall comes less than 2 months after a previous recall of 2815 EX30s, which asked owners to keep the battery charge below 70 per cent. This new recall supercedes that recall.

Key details:

  • 3344 examples have been recalled.
  • The affected model years are 2023 – 2024.
  • Find a full list of affected VINs here.

“Due to a manufacturing issue, the cell modules installed in the high voltage battery may overheat at high charge levels. If this occurs, it could lead to a vehicle fire. Keep the battery charge level below 70% which can be set in the Charging setting menu on the vehicle display”, the recall stated.

“A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders, and/or damage to property.”

Like with the previous recall, owners of affected vehicles are asked to keep the battery charge below 70 per cent until parts become available.

This can be done by pressing the vehicle symbol in the bottom bar of the display and go to Settings. Go to Charging → Target battery level, then set your charge level to maximum 70%.
