While technically not an all-new Triton, Mitsubishi heavily re-engineered and revised the previous generation’s proven Triton platform, improving both its on- and off-road ability and characteristics.

Where the Volkswagen Amarok sets the standard for refinement (at least when new) and the HiLux and Ranger continue to win the sales war, the Triton offers proven quality and superb value for money, especially in the used market.

But, the Triton is far from perfect and there are a few things to watch out for.

Should you buy a used Mitsubishi Triton (MQ)?

Yes. The MQ Triton offers excellent value for money and while it doesn’t shine in any one particular area when compared to other vehicles in this class, it certainly doesn’t fail in any particular area either.

As with all 4×4 vehicles, make sure to check if it has been abused off road, check for a thorough service history and if fitted with accessories, make sure they are a quality brand and have been fitted professionally.

The Triton really is a jack of all trades and a master of none and when the price of admission is so reasonable, it makes all the other more expensive 4×4 utes feel very expensive.
