Also, these engines do have a number of cooling system complications, especially leaks from water pumps and thermostat housings. Some say high engine bay temperatures are the cause of failed engine bay plastics, like the cooling system, PCV and inlet tract components, although these particular engines don’t really fail any more often than any other Mercedes model.

In terms of the DSG transmissions and drivelines, there are many complaints about harsh shifting, annoying clunks and shuddering. This can be a software related problem or an internal mechanical issue and there are plenty of reports about rear differential failures too. If the car is out of warranty, all of these issues are likely to be expensive to repair.

Introduced in August 2013, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class A45 AMG arrived as a 5-door hatchback manufactured in Rastatt, Germany sporting a 2.0 litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission with a Haldex all-wheel-drive system.

Key features included an AMG styling pack, AMG driver’s package (which increased top speed), stiffer suspension, larger brakes, leather/alcantara steering wheel, sports seats with AMG leather trim and a 12-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system.

Models produced from September 2015 gained the 8.0-inch COMMAND online infotainment system which featured a larger infotainment screen (previously 7.0-inches), internet connectivity and LED headlights. An update in December 2015 further enhanced the A45 AMG with Apple CarPlay, MirrorLink smartphone integration (for Android devices) and replacing the Becker satellite navigation software in the COMMAND infotainment system for a Garmin software package.

Production ended in 2018, when the W176 A45 AMG was succeeded by the W177.
